TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 507th Air Refueling Wing here in coordination with Air Force Reserve Command launched the new Air Force Connect mobile application March allowing Reservists to access unit information and online tools on the go.
The app, which is available on both iOS and Android platforms, has a main Air Force page and can be customized by adding additional organizations in the favorites area. For Reservists here at Tinker AFB, they just need to add the 507th ARW as a favorite to unlock all the local features.
The new app has many features and functionality that doesn’t rely on government computer systems, including a detailed calendar of events, push notifications, career information, medical information, wing directory and a group’s function which allows Reservists to connect directly groups.
“The app helps streamline our communication and hopefully reduces the stress of our Reservists,” said Tech. Sgt. Samantha Mathison, 507th ARW Public Affairs, NCOIC of command information. “It provides easy access to information so we can go into the UTA knowing what to expect.”
Reservists are leading the way with the help of the AF Connect team. More than 60% of AFRC wings have implemented the new application, with more joining soon, according to the AFConnect team.
“The biggest benefit to Reservists is that the App consolidates the information they need to manage their careers and perform duty into a package they can access from their mobile device,” said Senior Master Sgt. Timm Huffman, Chief of content management and training for the AF Connect team.
In the near future the app will allow access to common access card secured websites, allowing members access Air Force Portal, ARCNet, military email and even submit travel vouchers. The feature uses a common access card reader that plugs into the mobile device, which when used with the service member’s CAC, will allow the user to authenticate their identity. The timeline on the CAC enabled features will be announced in the coming months.
