Reservists recognized at national softball game

A military appreciation night featuring members of the Air Force Reserve and 507th Air Refueling Wing were held recently during the national women's softball championship games held in Oklahoma City.

The games were hosted by the National College Athletics Association along with Women's College World Series, the Oklahoma City All Sports Association, University of Oklahoma and Amateur Softball Association at America Hall of Fame Stadium in downtown Oklahoma City.

During the second game of the Championship Series on June 7 military members were recognized on Military appreciation night. Several activities were held to honor all branches of the Military with fans encouraged to wear red, white and blue to demonstrate their appreciation and thank all military personnel for their service.

The ceremonial first pitch for Game 2 of the Championship Series will be thrown by Oklahoma Secretary of Veterans and Military Affairs, US Army Guard Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Rita Aragon. God Bless America was sung by Master Sergeant Wavelon Jackson from Tinker Air Force Base with the National Anthem performed by 77th Army Band from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. The American Flag was presented by service men and women from Oklahoma's own Altus Air and Tinker Air Force Bases and Colors was presented by Altus Air Force Base Blue Knights Honor Guard and Tinker Air Force Base Honor Guard. The bottom of the 3rd inning featured an on-field presentation by the NCAA to Maj. Ed Pulido, a Wounded Warrior from Oklahoma and Vice President with the Folds of Freedom organization.

Then at the bottom of the 5th inning an on-field presentation and recognition was made by the NCAA to two of the highest ranking female leaders serving at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Colonel Marcia Walker, Senior Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Director, Aerospace Sustainment Directorate, Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, and Chief Master Sergeant Tina Long, Command Chief Master Sergeant, 507th Air Refueling Wing. The presentation was made by Scott Farmer, Athletics Director at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Chair of the NCAA Division I Softball Committee.
