Reserve Chaplain receives Meritorious Service Medal Published Oct. 3, 2011 507th Air Refueling Wing TINKER AFB, Oklahoma -- Chaplain Major Dwight L. Magnus of the 507th Air Refueling Wing, recently received an Air Force Meritorious Service Medal during a Wing assembly. The citation read during the award presentation cited Chaplain Magnus for his outstanding professional skill, leadership and ceaseless efforts which resulted in major contributions to the effectiveness and success of wing chaplain corps programs. THE Officials cited Chaplain Magnus as an exceptional chaplain and officer, who provides consummate support to the wing and it's mission. Under his direct leadership the wing achieved a first in Air Force Reserve Command; the unit stood up the benchmark Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program; where he served two hundred fifty plus deployers and redeployers and their families. He provided vital assistance and ministry to a sister squadron upon the tragic death of a unit member. In very short notice, he planned and led the wing's memorial service, attended by many friends and appreciated by the grief-stricken family. Known for his energetic ministry, he initiated 750 phone calls and emails to deployed unit members or families; provided over 500 hours of unit visitation and more than 250 counseling sessions, resulting in enhanced wing-wide morale. Chaplain Magnus partnered and served with the 72d Air Base Wing Chapel Staff. For eight weeks he served as on-call Chaplain; he participated with the Traumatic Stress Response Team after a fellow Airman's tragic suicide. Additionally, he officiated at 15 funerals and negotiated the wing's first-ever statement of understanding with local active duty host and Air National Guard Chaplain Corps teams. Finally, for outstanding chapel corps program management, he was in a select group of wing members recognized as "Superior Performer" during the 2010 Unit Compliance Inspection.
