507th Air Refueling Wing
The 507th Air Refueling Wing, in conjunction with elementary students from the Putnam City Schools District, have presented Valentines to Veterans of the Norman Oklahoma Veteran's Center for the past six years. This year more than 280 students from D.D. Kirkland Elementary and another 80-plus students from leadership classes at Putnam City High School came together to create more than 600 valentines and posters for the center residents. Since the program began, students from three elementary schools and high schools from Putnam City and Oklahoma City School Districts have created more than 5,700 personalized cards, posters and banners for veterans. “It’s a wonderful teaching opportunity for our students and a great way to honor vets and let them know they are not forgotten,” says Kirkland Principal Bill Pierce, a major with the 507th Air Refueling Reserve Wing at Tinker Air Force Base.
