507th ARW recognized for superior performance Published Aug. 29, 2012 507th Air Refueling Wing TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Oklahoma -- The 507th Air Refueling Wing, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., is the recipient of the Airlift/Tanker Associations' Lt. Gen. James E. Sherrard III Award for 2012. According to the A/TA website, the award "recognizes the Air Reserve outstanding Wing/Group contributing to the overall success of the Mobility Air Force Mission." During the rating period 507th ARW aircrew and maintenance had 6,108 flying hours supporting 1,593 sorties in Operations Enduring Freedom, Unified Project, New Dawn and Odyssey Dawn. The wing earned the Air Force Association's Aircrew of the Year for undaunted courage in theater. The wing also received back-to-back "Excellent" ratings during the Air Mobility Command Inspector General 2012 Nuclear and Operational Readiness Inspections. In a letter to reservist of the 507th ARW, Air Force Reserve Command Commander, Lieutenant General James f. Jackson, wrote "The men and women of the 507th Air Refueling Wing personify "Citizen Airmen" as they successfully tackle the challenges of the wartime mobility Air Force. They maintain impeccable Readiness and Manning numbers while supporting global humanitarian relief efforts and continuing refueling demands. And, their on-going support of contingency operations and steadfast devotion to the local Oklahoma City community indicate superior dedication and performance." The general concluded his letter stating, "Their dedication to military duty and responsibility to civilian life embodies the spirit of this award. The 507th Air Refueling Wing is truly deserving of the A/TA Lt Gen James E. Sherrard III Award."
