TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 507th Air Refueling Wing leadership is encouraging all members to prioritize safety as inclement winter weather is projected to begin falling in the Oklahoma City Metro in the early morning hours, Friday Jan. 13.
Road conditions may be unsafe during the Friday commute. If conditions in your area are unsafe, make appropriate notifications to your immediate supervisor to be in a leave status.
Please monitor the Tinker AFB and 507th Air Refueling Wing social media (Facebook, Twitter) and local media for any updates to official reporting updates. You can also call the Tinker AFB Straight Talk line at 405-734-1900 for base operating status.
From the 72nd Air Base Wing Commander:
Team Tinker, There is a strong probability of severe winter moving into the area late tonight and in the early hours of Friday morning.
This forecast includes the possibility of freezing rain and ice accumulation across much of central and western Oklahoma.
Your safety is a top priority. That is why I continually monitor the weather conditions, and, when warranted, implement appropriate changes to Tinker's operating status.
Always remember that the operating status remains "open" unless officially changed. Official decisions on the operating status of Tinker AFB are normally made very early each duty day - between 2 and 4 a.m. Please do not call base operations, the Tinker Command Post or security forces for weather or operating status information.
Definitions for each operating status category are available at: http://www.tinker.af.mil/Home/WeatherStatus.aspx .
Personal safety is paramount. We need each and every member of Team tinker to meet our vital national defense missions. It is the responsibility of all Tinker employees to evaluate the weather conditions where they live and how they travel to and from work. If in doubt, contact your chain of command for specific instructions
